Yesterday, November 6th, 2012, The United States held the presidential election.  It was a very close election.  In the end, Barack Obama won the election.  Mr. Obama will be president of the U.S. for the next four years.

The election was very close.  President Obama had just over 60 million votes.  Mitt Romney had about 57,500,000 votes.  America uses an electoral system though and Obama won the electoral vote 303 to 206.  This was a very close presidential race.

There were were actually six presidential candidates.  Besides Obama of the Democratic Party and Romney of the Republican Party, there were also Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party, Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party, Rocky Anderson of the Justice Party and Jill Stein of the Green Party.  These four candidates won very few votes.  They did not have any real effect on the election.

After the outcome was known, Mr. Romney gave a concession speech.  A concession speech is when you tell your supporters that you lost the election.  Mr. Romney encouraged everyone to work together and to support the president.  Now President Obama must lead The United States for the next four years.

Do you think President Obama was a good choice for president?

Until next time,
